Connecting WhatsApp brings your customer conversations into Unibox alongside email, so you can read and reply from one place. Klipy captures direct messages—it does not read group chats or broadcast lists. WhatsApp connects via a QR code using Unipile, the same infrastructure used for LinkedIn and Telegram. You’ll scan it from the phone where WhatsApp is already installed.

Before you start

  • WhatsApp must be installed and active on your phone.
  • Your phone needs an internet connection during the linking step.
  • Klipy links to your personal WhatsApp account. WhatsApp Business accounts follow the same flow.

Connect WhatsApp

1

Open WhatsApp settings

In the Klipy app, go to Settings → Channels → WhatsApp.
2

Scan the QR code

Klipy shows a QR code on screen. On your phone:
  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu (Android) or Settings (iPhone).
  3. Select Linked devices → Link a device.
  4. Point your phone camera at the QR code on the Klipy screen.
3

Wait for sync

Once linked, WhatsApp shows Klipy under your linked devices. Messages start appearing in Unibox within a few minutes. A short history backfill (approximately the last 14 days) runs automatically.
The QR code expires after a few minutes. If it times out before you scan it, refresh the settings page to generate a new one.

After connecting

  • New WhatsApp messages from contacts appear in Unibox in real time.
  • You can reply to messages from inside Klipy.
  • Conversations are linked to contact and company records where Klipy can match the phone number.
To understand how WhatsApp messages are captured and what intelligence is extracted, see What Klipy captures.

Disconnect WhatsApp

Go to Settings → Channels → WhatsApp and click Disconnect. You can also remove the linked device from WhatsApp on your phone (Linked devices → Klipy → Log out).

Frequently asked questions

Klipy uses a similar linked-device mechanism to WhatsApp Web—your phone stays the primary device, and Klipy accesses messages through the same channel. Your phone must remain connected to the internet for the link to stay active.
No. Klipy captures direct messages (1:1 conversations). Group chats are not processed.
Yes. The QR code linking flow is the same for personal WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business accounts.
Yes. WhatsApp is an independent channel. You can connect it without email, and conversations will appear in Unibox. Email-based features (follow-up drafts, capture from email threads) require email to be connected separately.
WhatsApp’s architecture routes messages through your primary device (the phone). If your phone is offline for an extended period, the Klipy session may become inactive and require re-linking via QR code.
Klipy connects to your personal WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app via the linked-device flow. It does not use the WhatsApp Business API (cloud-based, requires Facebook business verification). If you need API-based WhatsApp, contact support.
Approximately the last 14 days of messages are imported on first connection. Messages older than that are not backfilled.
Those tools are built around WhatsApp Business API and team inbox routing. Klipy is built around a single salesperson’s conversations—it reads your personal WhatsApp DMs, links them to CRM records, and surfaces follow-up actions. If your use case is one-to-one sales conversations (not team routing or broadcast messaging), Klipy is the better fit.
Yes. Each Klipy user connects their own WhatsApp account independently—your messages are not shared with teammates unless you’re on the same contact record.
