WhatsApp sales chats, captured and followed up

Scan a QR code once and WhatsApp sales chats show up in Messaging automatically; switch on CRM tracking to log a chat to a contact, with a follow-up draft ready when one applies.

Klipy connects to WhatsApp with a QR code, the same linked-device method as WhatsApp Web, through Unipile, the infrastructure also behind LinkedIn and Telegram. What Klipy captures from WhatsApp

Klipy reads direct WhatsApp messages only. Klipy never processes group chats or broadcast lists. Captured messages surface in Messaging automatically, identified against the contact wherever the phone number resolves; turning on CRM tracking for a chat logs it to that contact and company record.

This is not the WhatsApp Business API, Meta's cloud-based, business-verification-gated product. Klipy links to the WhatsApp already installed on your phone, the same mechanism WhatsApp Web uses. There's no broadcast campaign tooling and no business-verification step to clear first.

How WhatsApp connects

Open Settings, then Channels, then WhatsApp in Klipy and it shows a QR code on screen. On your phone, open WhatsApp, tap the three-dot menu (Android) or Settings (iPhone), select Linked devices, then Link a device, and point your camera at the QR code. Once linked, the session appears among your phone's own linked devices, and messages start appearing in Messaging within a few minutes while roughly the last 14 days of history backfills automatically.

The QR code expires after a few minutes. If it times out before you scan it, refresh the Settings, Channels, WhatsApp page for a new one.

WhatsApp's architecture routes messages through your phone as the primary device. If your phone stays offline for an extended period, the linked session can go inactive. Reconnect by scanning a new QR code from Settings, then Channels, then WhatsApp, the same flow used for the initial connection. Connected channels show a status (connected, errored, or connecting), and a refresh-to-reconnect control appears when an account errors. See connecting WhatsApp and how connections work in Klipy.

Disconnect from Settings, then Channels, then WhatsApp and confirm, or remove the linked device directly from WhatsApp on your phone (Linked devices, then Klipy, then Log out). Disconnecting removes the linked device. Source: connecting WhatsApp.

Use cases

What you can do with it

I can now see a WhatsApp sales conversation land in Messaging automatically, without checking my phone separately.

WhatsApp messages show up in Klipy's Messaging pane alongside LinkedIn and Telegram; switch on CRM tracking to keep the chat in the same pipeline.

Connecting WhatsApp

I can now reply to a WhatsApp thread from inside Klipy instead of switching to my phone.

The reply links to the matching contact and company record wherever Klipy can resolve the phone number.

I can now run WhatsApp Business and personal WhatsApp through the identical setup, without extra configuration.

WhatsApp Business accounts use the exact same QR linking flow as personal WhatsApp.

Connecting WhatsApp
Trade-offs

Pros and cons

Pros

  • QR-code linking, no password shared, the same mechanism as WhatsApp Web.
  • Works identically for personal WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business accounts.
  • WhatsApp is an independent channel; connect it without setting up email first.
  • Direct messages surface in Messaging in real time; switching on CRM tracking for a chat logs it to the matching contact.
  • No message ever sends without your explicit approval, even in Auto mode.

Cons

  • Captures direct messages only; group chats and broadcast lists are not processed.
  • Not the WhatsApp Business API, so team-inbox routing and Meta-verified broadcast features aren't part of this connection.
  • Your phone must stay online for the linked session to stay active; an extended offline period can require re-linking via QR code.
  • History backfill is limited to about the last 14 days on first connection.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does connecting WhatsApp use the WhatsApp Business API?

No. Klipy links to the WhatsApp already installed on your phone via a QR code, the same linked-device mechanism as WhatsApp Web, not Meta's cloud-based, business-verification-gated WhatsApp Business API.

Does Klipy read my WhatsApp group chats?

No. Klipy captures direct (one-to-one) messages only. Group chats and broadcast lists are not processed.

Can I use Klipy with WhatsApp Business instead of personal WhatsApp?

Yes. The QR-code linking flow is identical for personal WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business accounts.

Does WhatsApp work without connecting email first?

Yes. WhatsApp is an independent channel. You can connect it on its own and conversations appear in Messaging; email-based features like follow-up drafts from email threads require email to be connected separately.

What happens if my phone goes offline for a while?

WhatsApp routes messages through your phone as the primary device. If it stays offline for an extended period, the linked session can become inactive and you'll need to re-link by scanning a new QR code.

Does Klipy ever send a WhatsApp reply on its own?

No. Every outbound WhatsApp message, like every email, LinkedIn, or Telegram message, waits in your approval queue until you review and approve it, even in Auto mode.
